Deck Your Halls With Greens & Blooms
It's that time of year again to deck your halls, mantels, tables and containers and we here at Snug Harbor Farm everything you need to a complete your holiday décor. So here is just a little look at all the greens, berries, and blooms here on the farm and in our shop.
This is the year for Winterberry or Ilex verticilatta pictured above. A deciduous type of holly these red berries cover the Maine woodlands and scream Christmas. We have hand harvested bundles wrapped in brown paper and twine perfect for a hostess gift, put in a vase or to fill your outdoor containers.
The Southern Magnolia pictured below adds holiday structure with big brown and glossy green leaves. They hold onto there leaves so there is no messy clean up involved after the holidays. It works well in many different compositions and the texture adds that unique look.
We have many unique types of evergreens as well out by our barn. These are your filler material and great for garland and wreaths or even just tucked around your mantel. Mix up a few different types to create interesting combinations. Above is Incense cedar and Noble Fir collected from farms out in the Pacific Northwest. Below pictured is seeded Eucalyptus and blue Juniper both will add a heavenly scent in your home.
Now its time to talk about the blooming holiday plants we carry. We absolutely love Cyclamen and think its a beautiful uncommon holiday flower. They come in red, white and many different shades of pink. They look absolutely charming in our Snug Harbor Farm pots and would look gorgeous strewn down a holiday table.
We have two different types of blooming bulbs in the shop, Paperwhites and Amaryllis. Paperwhites are a type of Narcissus or Daffodil that is not zone hardy. They are super easy to force in gravel and water or potted up with soil and bloom within 2 weeks or so after planting. There spicy scent has been filling the air in the shop.
We offer many different types of Amaryllis as well in many different colors from red and pink, to white and even ruffled and striped. These take longer to bloom so it's best to plant them now if you'd like blooms for the holidays. If cared for in the right manner they make a great houseplant and can offer you years of enjoyment.
Here is a cute little tip once your bulbs start to bloom you can stick a piece of Winterberry in the soil and tie the stalks to it with raffia to help your flowers from falling over.
Another great gardeners gift we have created is our miniature pines and evergreens potted up again in our Snug Harbor Farm pots. They look great clustered together on your porch or tucked around your holiday home.
Well we hope to see you all over this holiday season here at the farm. And we are more than happy to help you choose the perfect "Greens or Blooms" for your home or gift giving!
Great job and good information I`m sure this will be a great benefit for any one looking to build a timber deck.
